Catfish Feed Deliveries Up 23 Per Cent

US - Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during April was 40,145 tons, up 23 per cent from April 2009, and up significantly from the previous month, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture.

Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 38,080 tons, up 20 per cent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 2,065 tons, up 85 per cent from the corresponding month a year ago.

April feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 17,203 tons, up 36 per cent from last year. Mississippi accounted for 45 per cent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to US farmers.

The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in April and their comparison to the previous year were Alabama with 12,416 tons, up 14 per cent; Arkansas with 4,087 tons, up four per cent; and Louisiana with 565 tons, down 57 per cent.
