Catfish Feed Deliveries Still Down

US - Catfish feed deliveries are still down compared to figures from last year, however they have increased significantly from the previous month, by the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture.

Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during March was 13,580 tons, down 32 per cent from March 2009, but up significantly from the previous month. Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 12,680 tons, down 33 per cent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 900 tons, down three per cent from the corresponding month a year ago.

March feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 4,536 tons, down 28 per cent from last year. Mississippi accounted for 36 per cent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to US farmers.

The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in March and their comparison to the previous year were Alabama with 3,472 tons, down 52 per cent; Arkansas with 1,406 tons, down 33 per cent; and Louisiana with 286 tons, down 45 per cent.
