Cagayan Valley, CAR BFAR Lead Fish Farm Festival

PHILIPPINES - Joint forces from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Cagayan Valley (Region 2) and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) spearheaded the conduct of a festival on tilapia-production site in the Magat Dam set on May 21-22, 2009.

BFAR Regional Director Jovita Ayson and BFAR CAR Director Rebecca Dang-waan gave important messages to various fish stakeholders and visitors during the 2-day activity.

Dubbed as Magat Dam Aquaculture Festival held in Ambatali, Ramon, Isabela near the Magat reservoir, the festival included exhibits of different fish food products, launching of warwe hyancinth-based products and some cooking contest activities with fish (tilapia) as raw material.

BFAR, aiming for a record to become the longest tilapia grill in the world since the organizers have prepared the grilling materials of tilapia that was conducted on the 21st of May.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) also sponsored a contest of banca owners dubbed as "Bangkarera".

On the 22nd, a symposium on aquaculture symposium on the proper handling and raising up of tilapia in cage and in ponds, right fish feeds and feeding schedules, fish health management, hatchery management in lakes and reservoir, aquaculture management and water hyacinth handicraft management was conducted.

Experts from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from Nueva Ecija and in Southern Tagalog region and from the Department of Trade and Industry discussed the above-mentioned topics intended for fish producers, processors and investors.
