Agronutris, a French biotech company specialising in rearing black soldier flies for the food industry, has announced the appointment of Geir Ivar Lanes as its new aquaculture business director. As a veteran aquaculture industry professional, Lanes enters the role with 30 years' experience and knowledge of the sector.

As part of his extensive career, Lanes has spent over 20 years working as the managing director for Havbrukskontroll – an aquaculture consultancy – where he worked with suppliers and farmers to overcome challenges ranging from broodstock management to sea cage production. Following this role, Lane joined the algae processor Corbion, where he acted as senior market development manager.

In his new role, Lane will be responsible for overseeing commercial relations with clients in the aquaculture industry, particularly with Agronutris partner Biomar. The two companies have been in partnership since 2023, and together aim to develop the next generation of black soldier fly meal for use as an aquafeed ingredient.

“We are delighted to welcome Geir Ivar to our team at Agronutris. He brings with him valuable experience that will strengthen our position in the aquaculture market,” said Agronutris co-founder Mehdi Berrada, in a press release.
