Following the launch of the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Groups Made by Britain initiative to highlight British manufacturing excellence, Austin Mitchell MP nominated Youngs fish fingers, which has so far been the only seafood entry.
Austin Mitchell MP, MP for Great Grimsby said: I am proud of the fish fingers and all the seafood products, for that matter, made by local company Youngs. Youngs are a big local employer and although much of the fish has to be imported the products are all assembled and packaged locally.
In welcoming the new initiative, Leendert den Hollander, Chief Executive of Youngs Seafood Limited, said: Its great to see Austin Mitchell MP showing his support for Youngs Seafood fish fingers as part of the governments Made in Britain project."
"Youngs has been based in the UK for over 200 years, and has a proud history of British manufacturing. We are delighted to see our local MP showing the same passion that all our employees have for Youngs products. I know this will mean a lot to the hardworking staff based in all 13 of our UK sites.
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, the Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, launched the programme on the sixth of July 2011 at a key note address at the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group (APMG).
The APMG has asked MPs to name something they are proud to have manufactured in their own constituency. So far nominations have been made by forty MPs, including Austin Mitchell MP, member for Great Grimsby, who nominated Youngs fish fingers.
