“This is a great opportunity to again highlight that Australian seafood and our fishers are a wonderful reflection of world’s best practice in delivering the highest quality seafood,” said Anthony Ciconte, Chair of CFA.
“Without any shadow of a doubt the professional Commonwealth fishing industry plays a significant role in making Australia’s fisheries recognised as one of the world’s best in managing the whole marine ecosystem when fishing. This was confirmed in the 2012 Status of Key Australian Fish Stocks report that showed that 91 per cent of the wildcaught fish surveyed were from fully sustainable stocks.
"Our fishers supply the community with high quality, nutritious and healthy seafood. The latest official Australian Dietary Guidelines state that Australian fish often has more nutritional value (Omega3) than some imported fish and that Australians should increase their seafood consumption by 40 per cent to meet nutrition and health needs.”
“Strong fisheries management and fishers committed to sustainable harvesting of seafood are ensuring the future of Australia’s fishery resources.” concluded Mr Ciconte.
