In the first 4 months of this year, Vietnam earned US$ 12.6 million from crab exports to this market, up 11.3 per cent over the same period last year, reports VASEP.
Statistics from International Trade Centre (ITC), from January to April, the US imported 21,163 MT of crab from 32 countries, with the value of nearly US$ 374 million, up 2.5 per cent by volume and 6.9 per cent by value.
Imports from ASEAN countries reached US$ 175.9 million, accounting for 46.9 per cent of the total value. Crab imports from ASEAN increased by 42.5 per cent compared to the same period in 2014.
Crab exports from ASEAN countries to the US all reported at two digit growth rates. Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam have all been top crab exporters to the US.
Vietnam now ranks the ninth biggest source of crab to the US and the fourth among ASEAN countries.
Crab from Vietnam accounted for 5.6 per cent of total US imports and made up 12 per cent of crab exported from ASEAN to the US.
