Preparations for the third Annual International Conference and Exposition of the African Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society (AFRAQ2024) have gained momentum, following the signing of a hosting agreement by Tunisia's National Institute of Marine Sciences and Technologies (INSTM) on behalf of the country's Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries. This formal commitment signals the Tunisian government’s full support for the event, ensuring collaborative efforts with the World Aquaculture Society (WAS) for its execution.

In addition to governmental backing, several leading aquaculture companies based in Tunisia have pledged their support for AFRAQ2024. These companies, closely connected to the event’s Gold Sponsor, Nutrifish are set to offer attendees exclusive tours of their offshore seabream and seabass farming operations in the Mediterranean. Nutrifish, a large Tunisian feed manufacturer in the aquaculture industry, operate a new aquafeed mill with a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year. These companies, along with others, are expected to showcase their contributions to the sector in a dedicated pavilion at the AFRAQ2024 exhibition.

The conference, themed "Blue Farming: New Horizons for Economic Growth", is anticipated to attract over a thousand participants from Africa and across the globe. It will feature the latest in aquaculture research, innovations, and investment opportunities aimed at bolstering the growth of the sector across the continent. The event will include a scientific forum with oral and poster presentations, a trade exhibition, industry forums, satellite workshops, student events, and tours of local aquaculture farms.

AFRAQ2024 promises to connect the global aquaculture community, offering a comprehensive programme that highlights the expanding role of aquaculture in driving economic growth in Africa.
