Reduced Seafood Exports in April

NORWAY - Norway exported seafood worth NOK 3.7 billion in April. There is a decline of 501 million or 12 per cent compared with April 2011. So far this year, seafood exports 16.8 billion, a decline of 1.1 billion or six per cent compared to same period last year.

One of the reasons for the decline in export value of Norwegian seafood is that salmon prices in April fell by 30 per cent compared with the record level in 2011. In addition, we see that part of the trade has moved to Norway inventories, partly as a result of the economic challenges many importers meetings in Europe, says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information at the Norwegian sjmatrd.

The decline of salmon

The export of salmon to 2.2 billion in April. There is a decline of 315 million or 12 per cent compared with April last year. So far this year, exports of salmon nine billion, a decline of one billion or 10 per cent compared to same period last year. Lower export prices are the reason for the decline. The average price for whole fresh Norwegian salmon in April, 29.58 million against 42.69 million in April 2011. As for the previous month, France and Russia, the biggest buyers of salmon from Norway.

Trout exports increased by 59 million in April to a total value of 145 million. So far this year, exports of trout 552 million, an increase of 123 million compared to 2011. The largest buyers of trout from Norway, Russia and Japan.

Herring down, mackerel up

Exports of herring fell by 21 million in April to a total value of 208 million. So far this year, exports of herring 1.8 billion, a decrease of 18 million compared to last year. Russia and Germany are the largest markets for herring.

Mackerel increased in April by 39 million to a total of 97 million. So far this year, the growth of mackerel 245 million to a total of 883 million. For mackerel are Russia and China are the main markets.

Reduced exports of dried fish and salted fish

Clip fish exports fell by 70 million in April to a total value of $ 151 million. Exports divided by 99 million of cod, 45 million on pollock, while the remainder is distributed as ling, tusk and other groundfish. Exports of salted fish, including fillets, fell by 23 million in April and ended on a total of 120 million. 118.6 million kroner of this is cod.

Decline of fresh cod, recovery of frozen cod

Exports of fresh cod from the fishery, including breast, fell by 25 million in April to a total export value of 122 million. In April, exports of frozen cod fillets including, with 15 million to a total of 107 million.
