The Hughes County Commission has approved an ordinance that would allow such a fish farm to be located in land zoned as Agriculture ``B.''
Min-Kota Fisheries wants to build a tilapia fish-finishing pond and production facility on 500 acres of land in southeastern Hughes County along the Missouri River.
The fish farm would use tilapia fingerlings raised at the company's facility in Philip. Thirty-thousand pounds of fresh fillets a day would be sent to markets, and remaining liquids and debris would be converted into bi-products.
A company official says the proposed facility would the only one of its kind in the world.
