NW Cantabrian Working Group Begins Fishery Management Work

SPAIN - The Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Ignacio Escobar, presided over the second meeting of the Working Group of the national fishery and Northwestern Cantabrian, which was held in Santiago de Compostela, in which the description of the result of the Report of the International Council for Exploration of the Sea (ICES) on the stocks of the fishery, and a description of the major fisheries, was presented.

During the meeting, a presentation of a draft ministerial order which includes the Comprehensive management of different types of fishery was also given. It proposes, among other innovations, the distribution of the main fisheries ports and fleets, all with the primary objective of achieving the optimum use of available resources.

The creation of four working groups of national fisheries: Gulf of Cadiz, Mediterranean, Canary Islands and Northwestern Cantabrian, was approved in the Sector Conference attended by the different administrations involved in the management of the various national fishing grounds, in order to make a more rational and transparent national fishery.
