The theme of ICTBF will embrace the words of the newly elected President of Indonesia during his inauguration speech, “Jalesveva Jayamahe” or “in the sea we triumph”.
Delegates can look forward to important commercial topics including international market opportunities and access requirements, as well as updates from fishery improvement projects (FIP) and information on Indonesia’s new National Tuna Management Plan (NTMP), scheduled to be published in early 2015.
ICTBF brings together representatives from all stages of the supply chain, including producers, processors, and retailers to share knowledge and information about the positive changes occurring in Indonesia’s tuna fisheries.
Previous ICTBF events have been instrumental in driving Indonesia’s pole-and-line industry — the 2nd ICTBF saw the visioning of an industry association representing the interests of the pole-and-line sector, and Asosiasi Perikanan Pole-and-Line and Hand Line Indonesia (AP2HI) was officially inaugurated at the third ICTBF.
AP2HI represents the shared voice of Indonesia’s pole-and-line and hand-line industry, and the organization is the client for the pole-and-line and hand-line FIP with the intention of attaining Marine Stewardship Council Certification.
John Burton, Chairman of IPNLF said: “The International Coastal Tuna Business Forum is an incredibly important event because it promotes the hard work being done in these fishing communities, whose lifeblood is the tuna they catch. Ultimately, it helps ensure the future of many Indonesian people.”
The Republic of Indonesia’s Director General for Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing at MMAF, Saut Hutagalung commented: “On behalf of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, I want to express sincere appreciation to IPNLF for supporting the upcoming International Coastal Tuna Business Forum. We truly believe that both our continued collaboration and the forum itself are integral to the development of sustainable tuna fisheries in Indonesia. As the world’s largest tuna fishing nation, coastal tuna fisheries are a vital component of economic development through job creation, both direct and indirect.“
