INDIA - The Marine Product Export Development Authority has instructed aquaculture farmers to undergo the compulsorily process of registration with the authority.

Undertaking traditional or modern aquaculture activities or exporting aqua products without registration will be a punishable offence that attracts three-year imprisonment or Rs 100,000 fine or both, reports The Times of India.

According to the news organisation, authority would demolish the prawn culture ponds of the unregistered growers and the owners of unregistered ponds will not be entitled for government subsidies, bank loans and compensation in case of natural calamities.
