Fish Catches Up in February 2012

ICELAND - Fish catches were up in February 2012 compared to the same period in 2011, according to Statistics Iceland.

Total catch of Icelandic vessels in February 2012 was 312,221 tonnes compared to 210,005 tonnes in February 2011.

Demersal species accounted for nearly 40 thousand tonnes, thereof cod 22 thousand tonnes, haddock nearly six thousand tonnes, redfish nearly six thousand tonnes and saithe nearly three thousand tonnes.

The pelagic catch was 270 thousand tonnes, thereof capelin nearly 270 thousand tonnes and capelin 58 tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 28.7 per cent in February 2012 compared with February 2011.
