Fish Catches Decreased in January 2013

ICELAND - Total catch of Icelandic vessels in January 2013 was 147,314 tonnes compared to 198,290 tonnes in January 2012. Demersal species accounted for nearly 35,500 tonnes, thereof cod nearly 20,200 tonnes, haddock nearly 4,700 tonnes, redfish 4,300 tonnes and saithe approximately 3,100 tonnes. The pelagic catch was 109,900 tonnes, thereof accounted capelin for 109,600 tonnes, reports Statistics Iceland.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 8.0 per cent in January 2013 compared with January 2012.
