The registration is necessary so that those concerned can prepare themselves in time for the inspection, said a joint media statement by the Minister of International Trade and Industry and the Minister of Health.
The USFDA has scheduled an inspection mission to Malaysia from July 19-30, to ascertain compliance of aquaculture fishery products with its requirements.
The statement said the purpose of the mission is to better understand and evaluate the antibiotics and chemicals application regulatory system in aquaculture production in Malaysia, as well as the food safety controls the country has in place, to ensure fishery products exported to the US market are safe for human consumption.
The mission will involve the inspection of facilities along the entire aquaculture fishery product supply chain for the US market, including the fishery processing establishments, aquaculture farms, traders/middlemen, retail and wholesale suppliers of veterinary drugs and feed used on the farms.
Malaysia's total exports of fishery products to the US was valued at RM439.9 (US$ 137.37) million in 2009 and RM680.9 (US$ 212.63) million in 2008.
Registration can be made through the completion of a prescribed form, I/EE/US-1-09 (Information on Export Establishment for Export of Fishery Products to United States of America), which can be downloaded from http://fsq.moh.gov.my.
