The interested fleet consists of 102 vessels which can capture an initial global quota of nearly 6,480 tonnes, an increase in global quota of 33.58 per cent compared to the 2013 campaign.
This is due to increase of 28 per cent of the initial share of Spain for the year 2013, and the flexibility that is applied on the basis of Community legislation to transfer up to 10 per cent of the quota adapted in 2013 to 2014.
Despite the reduction in quota Spain suffered by the payment of fines for overfishing mackerel in 2009 and 2010, the effective work, control and inspection carried out by the General Secretariat of Fisheries has allowed this rise in total allowable catch.
