Taking place on May 26, in the Dutch port of Urk, the conference plans to address how communities can meet this challenge. The aim of the event is to reach a common international position on a future-proof fisheries sector, for both fleet as processing/wholesale industry, in which working together, and a focus on solutions, innovation and sustainability are key.
Brexit will have major consequences for the fisheries sector. Although the communities and regions have more or less similar problems and are all dependent on their fisheries sector and legislation from Brussels, they all seem to work on an individual basis.
With the exception of some speakers, the conference and most of the documentation will be in English. Dutch, German and French translation will be available. The conference will be held in Balk Shipyard, and speakers are coming from a variety of backgrounds. The European Commission will be represented, but also scientists and representatives from fisheries organizations, trade and industry will give key-note speeches or join in the panel discussion.
The conference will be interactive – the event’s ambassador, MEP Peter van Dalen (ECR) stated that it shows what the Dutch are good at: searching for solutions for the future, together.
