
Dr Barange is assistant director general of the FAO and director of its Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, having previously served as deputy chief executive and science director at Plymouth Marine Laboratory and chair of the scientific committee of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).
He is also an honorary professor at the University of Exeter and a visiting professor at the Yellow Sea Fisheries Research Institute (CAFS) in Qingdao.
As a global fisheries and aquaculture expert, with a particular focus on climate and anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems and on the role of aquatic foods in ending hunger and poverty, Dr Barange’s plenary address, is set to align with the conference theme "Aquaculture Opportunities, Options, and Optimism," and will take place on 11 November.
Taking place on 10-13 November, with three days of conference sessions and a concurrent exhibition, WA2025 will include technical presentations, workshops, exhibitions and extensive networking opportunities.
Organised by the World Aquaculture Society, it is being hosted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB).

Researchers, academics, and industry professionals wishing to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations must do so before 15 July.
