Analysing Southern Hake Fisheries

SPAIN - The Secretaty of the Sea met earlier this week with the Minster of Fisheries to discuss the situation of the southern hake fishery and address future regulations of the fishery.

The Secretary General of the Sea of Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) met on Monday with the Minister for Rural Affairs and Fisheries of Asturias, Manuel Martin Gonzalez to discuss the status of the southern hake fishery, after meetings with the sectors concerned over recent weeks and for the future regulation of the fishery of this species.

The meeting, also attended by the Director General of Fisheries and Aquaculture MARM, Alejandro Polanco, and the Director General of Fisheries of Asturias, José Marcelino Menéndez Cuervo, also served to address the situation of the various arts affected by cited fishery, with special attention to children and longline gear wheel.

It has also raised the specific case of the Cantabrian fishing skewer and weekly regulation of fishing days.

In this context, a decree published in the coming days that will include the changes resulting after the communication process of the last two weeks to stakeholders and will begin appropriate preparation and consultation process for next year.
