Veramaris and Merwetank to improve algal oil supplies

Feed ingredients +1 more

In a pioneering move for the aquafeed industry, Veramaris has partnered with Merwetank to construct a bulk algae oil storage tank in Dordrecht, near Rotterdam.

Set to be operational before the end of the year, Veramaris says that it “will significantly enhance supply security and logistics efficiency” for buyers of its algal oil.

The new tank will allow more Veramaris algal oil to be shipped in bulk – alongside other high-volume raw materials – directly to coastal aquafeed factories, reducing costs, complexity and carbon emissions.

Merwetank, a specialist in food-grade bulk logistics, will operate the tank, which includes advanced features to preserve product quality and integrity.

"This new setup brings our product much closer to customers’ existing supply chains," said Holger Kinzel, CFO of Veramaris, in a press release. "It’s a great example of how we’re scaling up with our partners to support bulk deliveries and the continued growth of sustainable aquaculture."
