Salmon farmers fail to take Birds Eye ad off-air

UK - Birds Eye has escaped a ban over its recent campaign that focused on artificial colouring in farmed salmon and the freshness of its own frozen food, following a complaint from Scottish salmon producers and consumers.

The Unilever-owned brand ran TV and radio ads, created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, focusing on the natural pink colour of wild salmon and claiming that farmed salmon was given the same colour using an artificial colourant.

The ads prompted complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority from the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation, an MSP, an MP and three members of the public.
