Environment Politics +1 more

MALAYSIA - The fisheries sector in Sabah is targeting to increase production by five per cent this year from 220,000 metric ton last year, State Agriculture and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said today.

He said efforts would be made to ensure a growth in the industry and they included stepping up enforcement against illegal fishing method, like the use of fish bombs, reports Bernama.com.

"We want fishermen to lodge report on fish bombings because such an action will destroy not only our fishing industry, but also tourism because it (use of fish bombs) can destroy corals".

"We will also promote traditional fishing using the 'tagal' in rivers and also at sea," Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin told reporters at a function with the State Fisheries Department here.
