MALAYSIA - Konsortium Galdasar Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian company, and Yuh Yow Fishery Co Ltd of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Monday agreed to invest RM100 million to set up an integrated aquaculture project on a 800 ha area in Tanjung Manis, Mukah.

A memorandum of understanding was sealed between the two companies at the launch of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi here.

The signatories were Konsortium Galdasar chairman Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and Yuh Yow Fishery managing director Chen Chao You. Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud also witnessed the signing.

According to the overview book on Score released today, the aquaculture industry, which has constantly enjoyed technological improvement in Sarawak, has unlimited potential to grow under this corridor development plan.

It says that apart from the potential of creating 44,000 jobs by 2030, the industry could contribute US$800 million in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the current annual aquaculture production has the potential to grow from 11,548 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes.
