The newest category in the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards – the Peoples’ Choice – is now open for business, and representatives of the UK aquaculture industry, and those from further afield, can now vote for their favourite of the 38 who’ve made the shortlists for the first 10 categories of the awards.
It’s the first time the public have had a chance to have their say in the contest, as the other categories are decided by a panel of judges, and it’s hoped that the launch of the new accolade will encourage more people to engage with the awards and debate the relative merits of all those shortlisted. Given the peculiar power of democracy to shock the establishment recently anything could happen. And, like Indyref in Scotland, campaigns relating to Salmon(d) are to the fore, although Sturgeon did not make the shortlist this time.
The polling stations are open right up to the Aquaculture UK exhibition, on 23 May, and the achievements of all those on the shortlist will be showcased at a special evening event on 22 May in Aviemore.
