National Aquaculture Centre To Be Built In Sabah
MALAYSIA - A national aquaculture centre will be built in Sabah to spur the development of the fisheries sector under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP).
Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said his ministry would cooperate with the Sabah Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry to develop the project.
"Sabah has a very good record of fisheries products and a lot of resources which are untapped," he told reporters after a briefing and dialogue session with members of the Umno agriculture bureau here Friday.
Universiti Malaysia Sabah was also actively conducting research on breeding of fish, said Muhyiddin who is chairman of the bureau.
He said his ministry and the state government would hold further discussions on various aspects of the project, including the funding.
Sabah Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Ismail told reporters that he had identified a suitable site for the proposed centre.
