Gael Force Group – a producer of marine equipment – has announced the launch of one of its SeaFeed barges, which is now making its way to Scotland where it will assist the production of farmed salmon.

The barge, which is now being towed to Scotland from the Netherlands, has been commissioned by Mowi Scotland for one of its more exposed sites on the west coast of Scotland. Upon reaching its destination the barge will be completed at Gael Force’s premises in Inverness with the addition of their SeaFeed feeding system.

“We are delighted with all aspects of the barge design and appearance. The launch went off without a hitch and we are now looking forward to getting it into our own yard, where we can finish fitting out and installing the feeding systems on board,” said Gael Force Group operations director, Stephen Offord, in a press release.

For the first time in its history of barge construction, which encompasses the successful completion of over 100 vessels, Gael Force could not construct this new barge at their own facility, which was already at capacity with other projects. The company instead partnered with Nauplius Workboats, a neighbouring company, and used Nauplius’ yard for the project.

“Partnering with Nauplius’ yard on this occasion gave us the flexibility needed to adapt our build programme effectively,” said Offord.

The new barge will be safely delivered to Mowi in Scotland before the end of the year, ready to provide feed for the company’s operations from day one.
