Marine Harvest’s Faroese and Irish operations were the global salmon firm’s best financial performers in the final quarter of 2017.

The EBIT per kilo for salmon harvested from their Faroese and Irish sites in Q4 was an impressive €3 and €2.70, although they respectively contributed only 4,000 and 2,500 tonnes of the 113,000 tonnes of salmon harvested by the group in the quarter.

Meanwhile Canada and Chile, which accounted for 10,000 tonnes and 17,000 tonnes respectively had the poorest margins, with both operations recording an average EBIT/kg of €1.

The middle ranking countries were Norway – where 66,500 tonnes were produced at an average of €1.75 per kilo – and Scotland, where the company produced 13,000 tonnes at an average of €1.20 per kilo.

Overall, operational EBIT for the group was approximately €177 million, down from €259 million in Q4 2016. The complete Q4 2017 report will be released on 14 February.
