The food ban includes chicken, fish, shrimps, ducks, frogs and snails produced in these areas, reports an official source.
Agent Orange is a chemical used by the Americans during the war. The dioxins are believed to have come from the city’s military airport, where US troops stored large quantities of the chemicals.
A report from Dong Nai Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs showed that the volume of dioxin in the fat of poultry, fish and shrimp in Bien Hung Lake close to Bien Hoa airport was 200 to 1000 times higher than permissible.
However, this project is only for soil at the airport and surrounding areas. The work is expected to be completed by the end of next year. There have been no provisions for cleaning up water in lakes and ground water.
