The July 2013 report on Fisheries and Aquaculture from the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) states that the capture sector recorded a landing in the first half of 936, 000 tonnes, a drop of 37.5 per cent.
Of this catch, roughly 78.9 per cent was comprised of pelagic fisheries, 2.9 per cent demersal resources, three per cent southernmost demersal and 15.2 per cent other resources.
The estimated landings of pelagic resources in the first half recorded 739,000 tonnes, which represented a decrease of 41.8 per cent over the same date last year. The most important pelagic resources are anchovy, mackerel and sardine contributing 40.4 per cent, 29 per cent and 17.9 per cent, respectively.
These landings are concentrated mainly in regions VX area, 55.1 per cent, followed by zone II regions XV-33.4 per cent and regions III and IV with 11.5 per cent.
The accumulated landings of anchovy to June this year reached 298,500 tonnes, presenting a drop of 18.4 per cent over the same date in 2012.
Estimated total landings of mackerel year to June of 2013 amounted to 214,100 tonnes, which is 1.4 per cent lower over the same period of 2012.
The estimated landings of demersal resources to June 2013, reached 26,700 tonnes, which meant a reduction of one per cent from the same time last year.
Hake landings during the period accumulated to 18,900 tonnes, representing a low of three per cent compared to the same date of 2012.
