VIETNAM - Scientists suggest using the floods as a managed natural resource, that when used effectively could improve people's living standards, develop production and protect the environment.

The delta is home to 17mil people in it's 13 provinces and cities, covers an area of nearly four million ha, and contributes 18% of Vietnam's total GDP.

The region which is an important primary producer for the country, supplies 90% of all rice exports and nearly 60% of the country's total export turnover for fishery products.
