The shortlisted restaurants from across the country ‘battering’ it out are: Burton Road Chippy in Lincoln, Lincolnshire; Cromars in St Andrews, Fife; Fylde Fish Bar in Southport, Merseyside; Papa’s Barn in Ditton, Kent and Simpsons Fish & Chips in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
To secure a place as a top five finalist, the restaurants had to excel during a rigorous judging process including mystery shopper judging visits.
The restaurants will enter one final round of judging before making its way to the prestigious awards ceremony at The Lancaster London Hotel on 20 January 2015 where the overall national winner will be crowned.
Award sponsor David Lovell, Business Director of Goldensheaf, said: “We have a heritage of over 60 years as the UK’s leading batter mix so we can identify with the importance of being recognised as a quality performer within the industry.
“This award category rewards those businesses that strive to both provide the best fish and chip dining experience for their customers and to improve the standards in their business as a whole.
“We congratulate the five restaurants in reaching this tough stage of the competition and wish them good luck in the final.”
Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish, said: “We are greatly impressed with the high standard and professionalism of entrants in this year’s awards. It was a challenging task to whittle down our finalists, so much so that we have shortlisted five restaurants instead of the usual three. The level of dedication and hard work shown by the finalists is admirable. I look forward to seeing who comes out on top at the final.”
