Shellfish Production to get share of Proposed $29M Development Fund

FLORIDA - State representative Ginny Brown-Waite is looking to secure US$29 million federal funds to regenerate for Florida's ailing services and resources - an aquaculture will get a share.

Amongst her plans, she has earmarked a $300,000 investment in the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences Shellfish Aquaculture Development Program. The money would fund multi-disciplinary research into struggling aquaculture programs throughout the state.

According to the Hernando Today, there are 10 Congressional funding requests that the Brooksville Republican has made for the 2009 fiscal year. The requests total more than $29 million. Other projects relate to municipal services, military technology, further education, conservation and tackling drug crime.
