Clams Oysters Food safety & handling +6 more

CANADA - Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has advised the public that the harvesting of bi-valve molluscs of an area inside Annapolis Basin has been prohibited due to an increase in levels of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP).

The closure includes the harvesting of oysters, clams, mussels, scallops, quahogs and whelks.

Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP) is a natural occurring toxin often referred to as red tide. This toxin or poison can cause a loss of muscular coordination, paralysis and in severe cases is life threatening.
