The new 16 page Environmental Policy Statement, which is a revision and refinement of the inaugural statement launched in 2008, brings the SFF’s environmental policy right up to date by taking into account recent changes and initiatives in fisheries management.
Rory Campbell, Fisheries Policy Officer for the SFF, said: “This policy document aims to demonstrate, to as wide an audience as possible, that the Federation and its members are serious about sustainability and environmental protection. We are proud of our role as primary food producers, harvesting a superb natural resource from an environment that we value and respect.
“In Scotland, we have some of the world’s best fishing grounds right on our doorstep. We recognise that the key to our future lies in the health of these stocks and the ecosystem that sustains them. The launch of our new and updated Environmental Policy Statement signals our determination to play a full and active role in ensuring healthy and sustainable seas for future generations of Scottish fishermen. We recognise that working together with all other marine stakeholders offers us the best chance of success.
“Our Environmental Policy Statement is a guide to what our members in the various sectors of the industry are doing to address issues of sustainability. We regard our approach and the aspirations expressed in the document as work in permanent progress that will continually evolve and develop.”
