SEAFDEC to hold aquaculture business gab

PHILLIPINES - The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department will hold an Agree-Build-Organize-Transfer Aquaculture Business Forum on October 16 and 17 at the Philippine Social Science Center in Diliman, Quezon City, a press release from SEAFDEC said.

The gathering, themed "Teaching people how to culture fish to secure food and livelihood beyond a lifetime," is in line with the Agriculture and Fisheries Week which seeks to fulfill the government's goal of increasing food production and livelihood generation through sustainable agriculture.

The forum will highlight, among others, the role and interests of the private sector as entrepreneurs and employment generators in the business aspects of aquaculture - business start-up pointers, competencies and risk management, the press release said.

ABOT AquaNegosyo science-based aquaculture packages include hatchery, nursery, and grow-out operation of abalone, mudcrab, giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon); multi-species marine fish (grouper, milkfish, snapper, seabass); native (and African) catfish, tilapia and carp; and green water culture of milkfish, tiger shrimp and tilapia.
