Riverland Sees Aquaculture Potential

AUSTRALIA - Primary Industries says there is potential for a commercial aquaculture project in the South Australian Riverland.

According to ABC Australia, the use of saline ground water for inland fish farming, for species such as mulloway, has been investigated near Waikerie.

Ian Nightingale, of Primary Industries, says using the water could also reduce salinity in the River Murray.

"We're working, or have been for quite a while now, working with the local council and regional development boards, and including the Murray-Darling Basin Commission and SA Water about how do we go about accessing this water," he said.
