NEW ZEALAND - Plump, sumptuous and perfectly conditioned New Zealand Pacific Oysters are now on the menu again as NZ oyster farmers begin their first harvests for the season.

New Zealand Oyster Industry Association president Callum McCallum said now was the time for local oyster lovers to indulge in these sustainable and home-grown delicacies.

Oysters are like wine and cheese in that their flavour comes from terroir the environment they are grown in, he said.

New Zealand Pacific Oysters are low in calories and high in protein. They are a rich source of essential minerals and vitamins, with five to six oysters providing over three times daily Vitamin B12 requirements, 100 per cent of daily zinc needs, 30 per cent of daily iron needs and 1500mg of EPA and DHA omega-3 fats.
