Mr Tyson (52), who was previously the general manager of crab processor Burgons of Eyemouth, brings considerable expertise to Moray Seafoods where he will now play a crucial role in spearheading the Buckie based companys plans to broaden its scope and develop a wide portfolio of premium shellfish products to complement its core langoustine business.
His appointment is also great news for Scotlands crab fishermen, with one of Tysons key tasks being to build upon the existing supply base that Moray has developed over many years.
In particular, he will be looking to forge new partnership arrangements with fishermen that will develop the market for premium crab and help provide a sustainable and profitable future for the sector. Such partnership arrangements have already proved very successful for Moray Seafoods in the langoustine (prawn) sector.
Vaughan Tyson said: I am delighted to be joining Moray Seafoods at this tremendously exciting time for the company and my initial focus will be on further developing the companys crab business. The range and quality of shellfish found around the Scottish coastline is second to none and I believe there are huge opportunities to expand the companys offering of premium shellfish products for the UK and international markets.
An important element of my new role will be to further develop partnerships with our supply base, which we anticipate will bring real benefits to our valued fishing communities around the coast.
Victor West, managing director of Moray Seafoods, said: We are delighted to welcome Vaughan to our team and I am confident that his knowledge and experience will prove invaluable. Innovation and diversification are at the very heart of our business strategy and there is excellent potential for growth in the premium shellfish sector, both for langoustines and for a wide array of other shellfish.
