Directors John Cowe and Charlie Devin are stepping down from their full-time role with the company after a successful handover period following the acquisition of Lossie Seafoods by Associated Seafoods in July last year.
Lossie Seafoods was founded over 100 years ago by Johns grandfather (also called John) operating from a wooden shed in Lossiemouth processing whitefish, but also smoking wild-caught salmon from the rivers Spey and Findhorn.
Charlie Devin joined the company as sales director in 1995, and his sales skills, combined with John Cowes expertise in salmon smoking, resulted in a period of sustained growth that was aided by their strategy of focusing on the premium export market. Over the period, Lossie Seafoods has won numerous awards for its sales performance and product quality, and which has also seen the number of employees soar from around 15 to approximately 60 today.
Commenting on his retirement, Charlie Devin said: There have been a lot of changes in the seafood industry over the years but the business has been incredibly good to me."
I am passionate about smoked salmon and also passionate about our customers, and I have made many good friends around the world. I am also very proud of the pioneering success of Lossie Seafoods that has seen it become the first to establish Scottish smoked salmon sales in many new parts of the world.
John Cowe said: Lossie Seafoods has been a great success story and I am proud of everything we have achieved over the years. Under the new stewardship of Associated Seafoods and their impressive management team, I am certain that the company has a great future and will continue to develop and expand.
Victor West, managing director of Lossie Seafoods said: Charlie and John are two of the greatest characters in the Scottish seafood industry and their track record speaks for itself. I wish them both well in their retirement, although we will still be drawing upon their advice and wise counsel when required as we continue to grow the company.
