KR Group has implemented several sustainability initiatives, including an on-site wormery, a rainwater harvesting system, and achieving carbon-neutral certification

The contract involves providing steel and cladding for the final phase of a new Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) at Applecross, located in the Northwest Highlands.

The project, set to begin in the coming weeks at the Wester Ross site, is part of a £49 million investment by the Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) aimed at enhancing salmon farming methods. The three contracts with Nofitech have generated approximately £3 million for KR Group, which is based in Newburgh.

Nofitech specialises in the design and construction of RAS facilities for both freshwater and seawater. RAS is a closed-loop system that offers a more environmentally sustainable approach compared to traditional flow-through systems. By optimising water use and reducing environmental impact, RAS helps to minimise the risk of disease in fish stocks.

Nicola Fraser, business director at KR Group, commented on the project, noting the hard work of their team, who have been working through various weather conditions to complete the first two RAS buildings in Wester Ross. Fraser highlighted the significance of contributing to a project that aligns with the company's sustainability goals.

“Being part of this project from start to finish has been immensely rewarding for KR Group, knowing that we have contributed to a larger sustainability story. A key focus for our business is sustainability and we have several initiatives in place to ensure that we are playing our part in caring for the environment.” Nicole stated.

KR Group has implemented several sustainability initiatives, including an on-site wormery, a rainwater harvesting system, and achieving carbon-neutral certification. The company also holds ISO 14001 and PAS 2060 accreditation. Additionally, KR Group's sustainability division, KR Bon Reduction, focuses on repurposing used composite panels and PIR boards, with a target of repurposing over 200,000m² of panels by 2026.

This latest contract underscores KR Group’s growing reputation in the aquaculture construction sector and its commitment to sustainable practices.
