Government to Help Fishermen Affected by Earthquake

CHILE - The Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Raul Sunico, has met with fishermen who were affected by the earthquake that hit the north of the country.

The Economy Minister Luis Felipe Céspedes, and Raul Sunico, met with fishermen in one of the most affected areas by the earthquake, that struck the northern part of Chile.

The authorities heard the main demands of the leaders of the fishermen who requested immediate and longer-term measures. In addition, the Minister and the Secretary saw the damage caused by the sea.

"We want to tell fishermenin the Iquique region that they are not alone and that we will make available all the tools needed to recover their activities as soon as possible," said Mr Sunico.

The authority also added: "We know that we are coming into the Easter season and we will make every effort to ensure that the productive chain is activated and initiate the road to recovery."
