Government Grant to Aid Fishermen, Farmer Groups

PHILIPPINES - The Department of Labour and Employment 1 (DOLE-1) has allocated some P16 million in livelihood assistance for fishermen association of Region 1 this year.

Groups of farmers, youth, women, Overseas Filipino Workers, wage workers, tricycle operators and drivers, persons with disabilities and indigenous people were also identified to benefit under the DOLE livelihood programme totaling 2,816 beneficiaries, DOLE-1 Information Officer Arly Sta Ana-Valdez said.

She told the financial grants are intended for the purchase of equipment and tools needed by the beneficiaries to improve their livelihood and income employment.

It is also meant in the acquisition of skills training that will ensure and support them in the conduct of their livelihood projects that will be identified and approved by DOLE-1 later on.

According to DOLE Regional Director Grace Y. Ursua, the more communities they reach through the DOLE livelihood program, the more marginalized sectors, local government units, government agencies and other entities will become stakeholders to the governments goal of local employment generation and poverty eradication.

Everyone should take an active role in the two-prolonged goal of the present administration. No one is excused and no one should be left behind. By giving our beneficiaries livelihood projects to manage properly, we are giving them the task to help the government create sources of income and employment opportunities in the long-term, she further said.
