He said seine vessels with over 182 tons of carrying capacity which fish for tuna in the EPO should benefit from this measure.
Around 53 vessels should benefit from the first closure and a further 46 vessels in the second closure which will take place from 18 November, 2012 to 18 January, 2013.
During periods of closure vessels can be given maintenance to improve their performance.
Mr Moran emphasised that the Fisheries Administration is taking this action for conservation and resource management of tuna stocks.
The Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) promotes the coordination of scientific research on the abundance and biology of tuna stocks in the Convention Area of fish stocks covered by this Convention.

ECUADOR - The Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries, William Moran Velzquez, has announced that tuna fishing in the Eastern Pacific Ocean (EPO) is closed from 29 July to the 28 September 2012.
