Fish Catch for April Doubles from Previous Year

ICELAND - Total catch of Icelandic vessels in April 2012 was 80,340 tonnes compared to 36,756 tonnes in April 2011.

Demersal species accounted for 36,000 tonnes, cod 16,000 tonnes, haddock nearly 5,000 tonnes, redfish 5,000 tonnes and saithe 4,000 tonnes. The pelagic catch was 38,000 tonnes and was nearly all Blue whiting.

At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 32.8 per cent in April 2012 compared with April 2011.
