NORWAY: Norwegian salmon exports reached a record high in January according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC).

In January NSEC says that exports reached NOK 1,8 billion in value - more than NOK 280 million above the January 2008 level.

"It is the highest January result ever," market analyst in NSEC Paul Aandahl said.

A repprt in Fish FarmingXpert says the result is due to a strong demand for salmon on the global market.

The strongest growth came from markets outside Europe such as Asia and USA.

The average salmon price in January was NOK29.16 per kilo, NOK 0.54 per kilo above the average from January 2009
