Eastern Visayas Waters Remains Safe from Red Tide

PHILIPPINES - All coastal waters in Eastern Visayas remains free from red tide toxins according to Regional Director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Acquatic Resources (BFAR).

Director Juan Albaladejo made the declaration during the Suruswerte ha PIA, that based on the latest monitoring conducted by some field personnel there is no sign of outbreak of red tide organisms in all areas in the region.

According to Mr Albaladejo, this has been observed by the office for a period of eight months since the last outbreak happened in Matarinao bay in Eastern Samar last March 2011.

Mr Albaladejo also disclosed that for almost 10 years there have been no outbreaks in Cancabato Bay in Tacloban city and the Maqueda Bay in Catbalogan City, Samar.

However, Mr Albaladejo said analysis on samples taken from each area is being done weekly to ensure a safe product for the consuming public.
