China encourages stockpiling for aquaculture sector

The Chinese government has encouraged local authorities to temporarily stockpile aquaculture and poultry products in a bid to support the farming sectors after the unprecedented coronavirus outbreak has cut production and supplies.

According to Reuters, a statement jointly issued by the state planner and the country's agriculture ministry has decreed that China will increase fiscal and tax support for producers of aquatic and poultry products to help them survive the impact from coronavirus containment measures.

Restrictions on the movement of people and goods in an attempt to curb the outbreak have disrupted logistics and production in the agriculture sector, threatening protein output just as the world's most populous country faces a massive pork shortfall due to the impact of African swine fever.
