Total catfish feed delivered in the United States during October 2008 was 59,692 tons, down 21 percent from October 2007 and 45 percent below the previous month. Foodsize catfish feed delivered totaled 58,943 tons, down 19 percent from the corresponding month a year ago. Feed delivered for fingerlings and broodfish totaled 749 tons, down 71 percent from the corresponding month a year ago.
October feed delivered to Mississippi catfish growers for foodsize fish totaled 26,948 tons, down 25 percent from last year. Mississippi accounted for 46 percent of the total foodsize catfish feed delivered to U.S. farmers.
The other major States with catfish feed deliveries for foodsize fish in October and their comparison to the previous year were Alabama with 16,740 tons, down 13 percent; Arkansas with 7,971 tons, down 16 percent; and Louisiana with 2,245 tons, down 22 percent from last year.
