Originally developed by the Sea Fish Industry Authority and Deepdock Ltd., this Welsh EFF project was designed to investigate co-location potential taking into consideration the needs of all marine users.

The final report covers aquaculture options, an operational guidance manual, planning tools and a protocol for developing aquaculture in OWFs. The final report will be available to download soon from www.shellfish.org.uk.

Text Alerts Systems – CSO Spills

The SAGB has also been engaging with the UK’s Food Standards Agency over many years to help mitigate the risk of Norovirus illness originating from shellfish, harvested from polluted waters.

The SAGB has been working with the harvesting sector, and alongside water company partners and Seafish to provide real time text alerts when combined sewer overflows spill. A pilot testing this concept took place in Essex recently and another is still running in Devon.

Expansion of the system is expected in the autumn. This system of notification provides the harvester with the ability to make better informed active management decisions.
